My name
is Sara Devore. My
husband, Steve Austin, and I
started Raise the Woof! in
March 2005. I currently walk
up to 23 dogs on a regular
basis. We have a few dog
friends staying with us
every week. I also do house
visits when people are out
of town and take care of
cats, guinea pigs or any
animal friend. |

My goal
right now is to keep
building the dog walking and
dog day care business and
within the next year or two
buy bigger space just for
the dogs. I have quite a few
animal lover friends who are
willing and ready to help me
as needed. My long term goal
is to set up my own dog
rescue. I feel that there
really can't be enough
rescues. So many wonderful
dogs aren't given the chance
to have a companion. Not
necessarily because there
aren't good companions out
there, but because there
aren't enough shelters to
hold all of the dogs waiting
for a good home. I want to
take in as many dogs as
possible and give them a
home where they can be free
to be a dog. Get them used
to being loved and
socialized instead of
putting them down because
they have not been chosen
yet. Every day I wake up
with our dog Scrappy
cuddling at my feet and I'm
so happy. Yet it makes me so
sad to think of all the dogs
who want to be cuddling at
their owners feet too.
Scrappy was one of those
dogs. A pound puppy, sitting
in a cage, hoping someone
with a lot of love would
come pick him up. Waiting
for a face to lick. He was
on the list to be put down
the next week. Not because
he was a bad dog, just
because he had been there
for a while. My husband
went to the pound to find
his companion and found
Scrappy. But they told him
he couldn't have him. Steve
went to the pound every day
and begged to take Scrappy
home. Finally and thank
goodness Scrappy went home
with Steve. Scrappy has been
our inspiration for the
business and has changed our
lives forever. |
